Clark Sorensen's Exhibits & Installations

I am grateful everyday that I live in a country where we can still express our opinions, even if they are critical of our culture or our leaders.
This series expresses my take on the lasting legacy of George W. Bush. I feel that so many things are going down the drain as a direct result of the policies made over the last eight years. The urinal seemed like the perfect metaphor. My aim was to use humor and an object we are all familiar with to poke fun at Bush and at the same time say something critical about his legacy. I completely own up to the harshness and irreverence of this show - sometimes it is appropriate to be inappropriate.

By the way, no one was lied to, maimed, killed, overthrown, tortured, falsely imprisoned or bankrupted in the creating of this art.

"DOWN THE DRAIN"
-THE LEGACY OF GEORGE W. BUSH-
 January 18 - February 16, 2009
SF, CA

"THE WORLD ACCORDING TO BUSH"
Fully functional urinal sculpture
crafted in high fire porcelain showing the world going down the drain - obviously a comment on the Bush administration's environmental policies.

"THE PRESIDENTIAL URINAL"
Fully functional urinal sculpture
crafted in high fire porcelain
This portrait of our president is a fitting tribute as we flush him out and hope for better things to come.

"THE LEGACY OF GEORGE W. BUSH"
Fully functional urinal sculpture
crafted in high fire porcelain showing the American flag going down the drain
At first you may think that this piece is trashing our country but my intent is to illustrate the damage our country has suffered under the last eight years under George W. Bush.

"DOWN THE DRAIN"
Fully functional urinal sculpture
crafted in high fire porcelain showing the stock marked being flushed down the drain. The symbols at the top are: DJIA, NASDAQ, 401K, BSCBM (Bear Stearns), CFC (Countrywide mortgage), AIG, IRA

"LIBERTY AND JUSTICE FOR SOME"
2009
porcelain sculpture
stands 6" tall with pedestal
This is the one non-urinal in my show.
This is obviously a play on the statue of liberty, another symbol with great meaning to us in the US.

In response to the last eight years of George W. Bush at the helm of our country, San Francisco Sculptor Clark Sorensen has created a solo show of new ceramic sculptures. Sorensen is internationally know for his whimsical flower and shell shaped urinal sculptures but has been inspired to use the urinal to comment on the mess left in the wake of the Bush administration. His new works include a urinal portrait of our leader, another urinal showing the American flag being flushed down the drain, also a urinal featuring the stock market going down the tubes along with other new works. All of Sorensen’s urinals are crafted in high-fire porcelain and are fully functional fixtures.

February 17-22, 2006 Seoul, Korea

In February of 2006, Clark was invited as a special guest artist to exhibit his unusual urinal sculpture in conjunction with the 26th annual Kyung Hyang Housing Fair held in the KINTEX center just outside of Seoul, Korea. It was his great honor to share his creations with the people of Seoul and to hear and see their reactions. Several thousand people laughed, pointed and oohed their way through Clark's exhibit during it's short 6 day run.
