WHIMSICAL, HandCrafted URINALS ON DISPLAY AT FOIRE DE PARIS

The Paris Fair’s Exhibition on Toilets to Feature Urinal Art by San Francisco Artist,
Clark Sorensen

April 30 – May 12, 2013. Foire de Paris, Paris Expo, Porte de Versailles

San Francisco, CA, U.S., April 4, 2013–Three of Clark Sorensen’s unique urinal sculptures will be on display during the 13-day Foire De Paris as part of a special exhibit on toilets. Sorensen, a San Francisco-based sculptural artist, specializes in whimsical, handcrafted porcelain bathroom fixtures. Featured in the exhibition will be the Venus Fly Trap, Pink & Green Orchid, and Nautilus Shell, which are part of his collection of fully-functioning ceramic urinals.

“Because most people think of a urinal as being ugly or dirty, it is the perfect object to beautify.” ~Clark Sorensen

His durable, commercial-grade urinals are a perfect contradiction of beauty and function. Unlike commercial manufacturers, Sorensen’s urinals are truly unique works of art. Meticulously hand-built, each piece is formed from high-fire porcelain. Sorensen works individually with clients to create one-of-a-kind, custom pieces, whether it be recreating a previous piece or crafting something new. His work has been shipped to and installed in over 30 commercial and private settings around the world.

“Although the appeal of urinals has more to do with function than form for most people, the notion of the urinal as artwork is being revived by one enterprising sculptor 90 years after the artist Marcel Duchamp unveiled his ‘Fountain’.” ~Suzanne Gannon, “For the High-End Bathroom, Something Unexpected.” The New York Times January 25, 2007.
